Nanowrimo 2023 Mid-Month Update

As of November 15, the midway point of Nano, I was at 27,255 words, or a bit above par.

The two SDS Robots stories are finished. This is a series that I began ten years ago at Evernight Publishing with Aftermarket Lover, Master Lover, and Beta Lover. These final two stories could be read as standalones but they do reference characters from the first three stories, so I hope people will read the entire series. In a sense, it’s like a short novel - just told in five parts.

Nanowrimo is always a grind. I’ve done it a few times when I was between contract jobs and had ample free time, but those years were the exceptions. I’m still working full-time in what I call my “never-ending contract job,” so fitting in Nano has been a strain most days. As a writer you love seeing the progress you’re making, but human-wise, it’s tiring.

With the two SDS stories out of the way, I’m now working on a new non-fiction book. It’s hard to describe, but basically you could call it my own weird version of a self-help book. It will be fairly short like The Female Gaze.

It’s something that I’ve wanted to write for a while. I’ve only been working on it for a few days but I can already tell that it’s coming out more personal than I expected. I’m not sure what that means ultimately. My spare time for writing is limited, so I am practical-minded and don’t really spend time writing anything that I don’t intend to publish. As I get further along on this, I should be able to figure out if it is for publication or if it’s a personal project instead.

Hope you all have a good Thanksgiving! I’ll update again at the end of Nanowrimo.
