The more I get into writing The Female Gaze, the more the universe of the book expands.
I went to see Emily the Criminal. It’s an absorbing and well-made movie and I didn’t expect to still be thinking about it days and even weeks later, but I am. The story presented such a different kind of female protagonist that it just stuck with me.
And before that... I watched another movie that lingered with me.
Maybe you’ve had the same experience when writing non-fiction... the more you write, the more creative ways of looking at the subject come to you.
In any event, I’ll discuss both of these movies in the book. I’ve also decided to do a Camp Nanowrimo style acceleration of the first draft in September - meaning that I’m going to write with a word count that I have to hit each day.
I’ve been working on the book in a scattershot way, probably due to it being summer. I’m not at my best in the heat. But I’m feeling a bit of urgency as autumn approaches. Come October, it will be a year since I finished The Queendoms Series with the release of To the Farthest Shore. My writer self has had a good long break from having a daily writing schedule and I think I actually miss it at this point.
I may even update weekly in September, just to keep myself on track... we’ll see. Stranger things have happened (lol), so feel free to check back here the first week of the month.
