Update and A Few Announcements
Just a quick update on The Female Gaze. I’m working on it and it’s coming along, a bit slowly, but it’s coming.
Non-fiction is different. I’ve written posts here and at my anime blog for years, but generally don’t express my opinions on many things. If you read my fiction, what I think about life - and maybe politics - is probably obvious: you don’t have to squint to read between the lines. But it’s another thing when it’s non-fiction. When it’s non-fiction, there’s nowhere to hide. ;-)
So I’m getting used to the idea that I have to be more open about my beliefs and opinions. I’m facing my own reluctance to be seen.
It’s a generational thing. Being a private person was the default when I was growing up. No internet, no social media... but today you’re considered a little odd if you don’t share yourself with the world on a daily basis in some way.
I do intend to start a Twitter account sometime this year. I know Twitter is a minefield of craziness, but I like the idea of putting myself out there in little bites of text.
Anyway - on to the announcements. I’m attending a virtual convention next month called Romance Slam Jam. It’s a romance con that focuses on diversity. Here’s the link:
Romance Slam Jam Convention
They recently held a pre-convention “game night” via zoom call, which I enjoyed. By the way, this isn’t a m/m romance convention: their focus is multicultural male-female romance. But I met several authors at game night that write m/m, so they’re open to it.
The convention schedule isn’t available yet. Since they have a m/f romance focus, I doubt that I’ll be invited to present or participate in any panels, but I thought I’d mention the convention since some of you might be interested in attending.
And finally, I’m going to GayRomLit this year. I have an “Author” designation, meaning that I’ll have a spot in the author lounge and also the mass book signing that will be open to the public. So if you’re coming to the convention, please stop by and say hello.
That’s the update for this month... see you next month. :-)
